66°North e GANNI create an outdoor fashion capsule collection

The Outdoor brand 66° North has collaborated with Ganni, the iconic Danish fashion brand, to create a special ready-to-wear women capsule collection made with Polartec materials.

The collaboration combines Icelandic technical know-how with the design of the Danish brand. Known for its Icelandic outdoor models, 66° North has been protecting alpinists and outdoor enthusiasts since 1926. GANNI instead was born much more recently, in 2000, and is appreciated by the fashion industry for having reinvented the Scandinavian style.
The Nordic duo created a collection that combines style with the practicality of outdoor: the focus was on creating the best functional models for both large open spaces and metropolitan life. The design combines the tradition and technical know-how of 66° North with the playful and surprising style of GANNI.

The trend to use technical and outdoor fabrics in the fashion sector is growing, says Eric Yung, VP International of Polartec: “The number of collaborations with young brands is growing. The Polartec brand is well known among young people because young people love brands that express value and mean something. The value of the brand among young people has never been so high.”

The Vatnajökull dress and the Vatnajökull apron dress are padded with Polartec Power fill, developed for 100% with post-consumer recycled content from plastic bottles.
The first is a dress-coat upholstered colour block in soft shell and offers exceptional insulation without adding volume weight, as well as hydrophobic properties able to resist the absorption of moisture ensuring a quick drying. The design features include a shirt neck and a bulky balloon sleeve with stretch cuffs. The back features an original porthole cut with drawstring. The design of the padded apron is inspired by an apron that 66° North produced in the 1940s for women working in the fish industry, but reinterpreting it in a modern and metropolitan key.

The Kria jacket is based on the first outdoor technical jacket produced by 66° North in the 90’s.  For 2019 the technical skills of the jacket have been increased, there are reflective details and the design has a touch of style. Using Polartec NeoShell, the most breathable and waterproof fabric on the market, Kria provides a high technical protection from the external elements. Thanks to the size and optimal positioning of the membrane pores, NeoShell releases heat and sweat without high pressure build-up. The continuous air exchange improves the natural thermoregulation, while ensuring the necessary protection from all external elements.

The bag ganni matches the garments and is thought to be carried under arm or shoulder strap. It uses Polartec Power fill, a 100% insulation made with post-consumer recycled content from plastic bottles. To date, Polartec has recycled 1.5 million bottles, saving them from landfill and turning them into high-quality fabrics. The bag is inspired by the original and historic 66° North bag for fishermen.
