From March the 3rd to the 6th it’s been Banked Slalom time in LAAX. 300 riders gather for the 7th edition of the SuddenRush. All the participants have to ride 23 banks as fast as possible.

The event has been opened by Master categories (aged 40+) and Pro category (aged 18+) won by Sina Canadian (SUI) and Josh Dirkens (USA). Josh said: “It’s my first time at the Banked Slalom in LAAX. A smooth and well built course. Fun but also intimidating.

The Open category (aged 18-39) has run the second day with over 100 participants. LAAX locals Tiziana Cassutt and Renato Nadig took the win.

Right after that, the top riders of all categories competed against each other in one decisive run to define the fastest. The tiles has won by pro-snowboarders Chloe David (SUI) and Elias  Elhardt (GER).

Chloe analyzed the course: “The key part of the run was the middle section with the really fast little turns, you really needed to get your speed there.” Elias added: “The key  section for me was the 3rd or 4th last bank, I had to take a little bit of speed out to make  it through. The most fun part of the course were the narrow banks in the middle of the  course, here you could really go full speed.”

The last day 70 kids took over the course to show their skills. The youngest was 4 years-old Wincent  Rembiewski.

Before switching off the lights, the Fakie Race has taken the show: all the riders enter the course backwards, switch. Luca Kuppelwieser, Head of Snowparks LAAX, locked in the fastest time.

The event ended with the last prize-giving up on Crap Sogn Gion where Fabien Rohrer said: “My contest time is over since quite some years now, for my son Jeremy the Banked Slalom is his first-ever snowboard competition. For me this is the perfect event to give him an understanding of the true spirit of snowboarding.

The SuddenRush Banked Slalom LAAX stands for fun, friendship, open-mindedness – it’s all about enjoying time together on the mountain on the one board which means the world to all participants.
