The Art of Skiing: Cober shows the consequences of melting glaciers

For its second edition, the project features the collaboration of Italian artist Sara Quatela

The Art of Skiing is a project born out of Cober’s desire to tell the story of the hitherto underdeveloped union between art and sport. Born in 2020, each year will see the collaboration with a contemporary Italian artist who will interpret the two seasons (winter and summer) with artworks commissioned by Cober. The choice of media will remain with the artist, leaving more freedom of expression. The second edition will feature a collaboration with Herbarium, the project of Sara Quatela.

The topic addressed is intended to make people think about the environmental problem related to the melting of glaciers and the consequent disappearance of some plant species. The retreat of glaciers leads to the exposure of new land to plant colonization, but at the same time, 22% of the plant species present do not respond linearly to these phenomena and will disappear as the glacier disappears.

The goal of this edition is to raise awareness and consciousness about some of the lesser-known consequences related to melting glaciers. The works created will also be used to make clothing and other products.
