The future of the outdoors is no longer built just by looking forward, but also by considering what we’ve left behind. PrimaLoft, a world leader in fiber technologies, takes a decisive step in its “Relentlessly Responsible” mission with the launch of ReRun: a proprietary technology that promises to revolutionize the concept of thermal insulation by transforming textile waste into top-notch technical materials. The goal is ambitious yet concrete: to break the linear consumption model and create a circular system where the “end of life” of a fabric becomes the start of a new adventure at high altitudes. Two souls, one goal: the ReRun variants.
ReRun technology comes in two specific solutions, designed to meet different design and performance needs: ThermoPlume, PrimaLoft, ReRun: it’s the sustainable answer for those who love the style and silhouette of down. This loose fiber insulating blend is made from 100% recycled material (30% of which comes from pre-consumer shoe uppers). Thanks to mechanical recycling, waste is shredded and trimmed to create a versatile, soft, and highly performing insulation.
Silver PrimaLoft ReRun: here’s how the technology reaches the molecular level. Made with soft and fine fibers, this insulator offers lightweight warmth and performance identical to virgin materials. The composition is 100% recycled, including 50% regenerated fabrics that ensure uncompromised thermal efficiency. “We are uniquely positioned to act as a catalyst for circularity across the entire sector,” said Andrea Paulson, Senior VP for technology and innovation at PrimaLoft. “We collaborate with over 1,000 brands and have proven that it’s possible to deliver industry-leading performance while drastically reducing environmental impact.”
To understand the scope of this innovation, one must look at the processes PrimaLoft has implemented: Mechanical Recycling: A closed-loop process that recovers discarded fabrics (like those from footwear) and physically deconstructs them, shredding them into reusable materials without altering their chemical nature. Regenerative Recycling: A more complex technological challenge that operates at the molecular level. Fabrics are broken down into their base polymers, removing all impurities (dyes and finishes), and then reconstructed into virgin-quality PET pellets.
Why is this a game-changing news? With ReRun, PrimaLoft doesn’t just recycle bottle plastics (as was done in the past), but tackles the real issue of the fashion industry: textile waste. Transforming old shoes and discarded garments into insulation capable of withstanding the coldest temperatures means that the next technical garment we wear might have already lived a previous life, without us noticing any difference in warmth and comfort.
