Decades of experience in vertical environments combined with Italian know-how: Skylotec is now stronger and more versatile than ever.
For everyone who practices activities at altitude – whether climbing, ice or via ferratas – the name Skylotec is increasingly familiar. The German company boasts over 75 years of experience and has long been a reference point for personal protective equipment for work at height, from wind turbine maintenance to tree care. But verticality at Skylotec is much more than work. With seven production sites across Europe, the company also represents outdoor sports, adventure and passion for challenges in nature. A resource for those who pack their backpack thinking about the next route, equipped with carabiners, belay devices and crampons.
A fundamental milestone arrives in 2021, when the family-owned company Skylotec acquires its historic Italian partner Aludesign, itself a family-run business and already owner of the Climbing Technology brand. The operation completes Skylotec’s expertise: additional experience, greater production capacity and decades of technical skills in mountain equipment integrate perfectly with the German company’s existing experience. Aludesign, based in Cisano Bergamasco, has been active in metalworking since the early 1980s and has been developing high-quality technical climbing equipment for decades. Today this expertise perfectly complements Skylotec’s know-how, making the company one of the largest European manufacturers in its sector.
A key advantage lies in the close connection between development and production. Every stage – from the first idea to design, through testing and final production – remains under Skylotec’s control. Short distances, direct communication, full quality control and rapid development cycles are rare in the sector. At the same time, European production guarantees independence from long Asian supply chains and contributes positively to sustainability and resource efficiency. “Forged in the Alps” means exactly this: the DNA and experience Skylotec comes from, with its own facilities where its products take shape.
Behind every product are people who live the mountains. The R&D team works closely with climbers, mountain guides and outdoor enthusiasts. “Our product manager is a mountain guide, and each of us, making the mountains our passion and using our products, brings precise feedback that flows directly into our development process,” explains Arianna Colombo, Product Marketing Manager at Skylotec.
This direct dialogue often contributes to the performance of many products in the current range: from carabiners to quickdraws, to modular crampons. At the same time, new ideas and concepts are already being developed behind the scenes, demonstrating the potential that comes from combining experience, technical expertise and authentic passion for the mountains.
The message is clear: Skylotec is not a new brand in the mountain world. However, thanks to combined expertise, expanded production capabilities and deep experience in both work and sport, the company is now more dynamic and prepared than ever.
“We get you there” is more than a slogan. It’s the Skylotec brand promise for everyone who works at height. Whether it’s work or sport, whatever the goal: Skylotec gets you there.
