adidas, freeriding is also a matter of sight

adidas has perfected its line of snow goggles, making them even better performing and adaptable to all light conditions.

Santa Caterina Valfurva, 6:45 am. Accompanied by the first light of dawn, we wait for the snowcat to take us to Cima Sobretta, 3,296 metres above sea level. During the ascent, we observe, curious and amazed, the incredible play of colours that the snow creates with the just-risen sun: the Valfurva peaks are first tinged with soft purple, then bright pink. Once we reach the top, we wait anxiously for the sun to peep out of the sharp profile of the mountain, giving off an incredible light and giving us a brief, and perhaps imaginary, feeling of extra warmth.

The life of a mountain sportsman is marked by two crucial aspects in our opinion, especially if you like to freeride: managing the natural elements that can favour, hinder or make the activity dangerous, and equipping yourself with the right technical equipment to deal with any criticalities encountered along the way. Light is hardly considered a challenging element in the mountains, but if you find yourself in a situation where the light changes suddenly, it can take a few minutes for the eye to get used to it. For this reason, it is also essential to be equipped with a pair of lenses designed for use in high mountains and capable of handling the change in light, because the sooner our eyes adapt to the new conditions, the sooner we can get back to giving our best on the descents.

This is why adidas Sport has chosen to upgrade its snow goggles with photochromic lenses made with E-SUNTM NXT VARIATM technology, which is the ideal solution for those seeking a clear view in all light conditions: the NXT lenses automatically adapt to the ambient light in various weather conditions, covering up to three different levels of sun protection. The change is also noticeable in the changing colour of the lenses themselves, which darken in intense UV light and lighten as the light decreases. The curvature of the goggle due to the toric lens also ensures an optimal distance between the frame and the face, which widens the field of vision and improves optical sensitivity.

An activity such as freeriding presents many complexities, which is why before going out you need to be fully aware of the weather conditions you are going to encounter, the risk of avalanches, but also ready to handle an Artva device, shovel and probe if necessary. When you are in the mountains you need to be respectful and careful, and having good equipment that allows you to be at ease, even in the less common aspects, is a great help.
