Salewa introduces Ortles, the new mountaineering collection

Salewa‘s new collection is named after the highest peak in Trentino-Alto Adige, a choice that clearly anticipates the goal of the line: it is designed precisely to meet the performance requirements needed for high-level mountaineering.

For the F22W23 mountaineering collection, Salewa places even more emphasis on reliability and safety in the mountains. To do so, it follows and narrates step by step the excursions of Gabriel Tschurtschenthaler, a visually impaired South Tyrolean mountaineer who best represents the need for reliable equipment in the mountains. Gabriel knows no limits, supported by the right tools and fellow travelers Vittorio and Matthias, he continues to grind summit after summit. Not only the back ridge of Ortles but also peaks of the caliber of Cerro Torre.

A close-knit team that is able to continue safely regardless of who advances first, whether it is Gabriel or one of his partners. Gabriel relies not only on his companions’ warnings about any dangers or obstacles they encounter along the way (such as rocks or protruding roots), but also on his senses.

For example, the climber can sense the movements and changes of the wind through sound or figure out what pitch to keep according to the inclination and type of terrain. For this very reason, equipment must do a flawless job without distracting users for even a moment.

To meet this very specific need, Salewa has developed the Ortles mountaineering collection, which includes a hardshell suit, technical fleece and down garments, as well as a new boot and backpack. But let’s see the top products in detail!

ORTLES 3L GTX PRO STRETCH JACKET AND PANT
Jacket and pant developed to support mountaineers during challenging climbs at high altitudes. It was made using the new 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro fabric that can offer strength without neglecting high elasticity. It also provides protection from wind and water while maintaining high breathability and the right internal microclimate. On the shoulders and elbows of the Ortles 3L GTX Pro Stretch Jacket, an ergonomic Gore-Tex Pro Stretch insert has been applied that naturally accommodates movement. In the most exposed areas, however, Gore-Tex Pro Most Rugged has been applied, which maximizes abrasion resistance. In the pants, Gore-Tex Pro Stretch is placed on the knees, waist and seat. In short: an outfit that offers safety, protection, wear resistance and maximum freedom of movement even in extreme conditions.

ORTLES ASCENT MID GTX
A reliable boot for all conditions and terrain, made from selected materials that make it rugged and durable. The Vibram Alpine Guide sole is developed to provide precision on rock through the climbing toe and a secure grip on snow and ice thanks to the special tread pattern. It uses a dual-density PU midsole that combines cushioning and rigidity, allowing for extended use. The upper, made of 2.2 mm leather, is combined with the waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex Insulated Comfort membrane.

ORTLES GUIDE 35 L
Lightweight and compact, it features Salewa Dry Back Contact which reduces the area of contact with the back, ensuring greater air circulation. At the same time, it keeps contents stable and close to the body. It uses an attachment system to carry skis by arranging them sideways or diagonally, while on the front is an attachment for two ice axes. Ortles Guide is made of Regen Robic, a fabric made from 100 percent recycled nylon.
