A vacation area that includes three quiet valleys set among snow-capped mountains for enjoying winter days doing sports and exploring the surroundings.

Also this year, snow has begun to dust the meadows and rocks of the mountains, the cold weather is beginning to compel the use of increasingly warm garments, and the air now smells of endless skiing. For the winter season, we bring you the Racines vacation area in Alto Adige: three valleys characterized by calm and unspoiled nature, ideal for those who like to explore along winter hikes or on cross-country ski outings. There is one particularly interesting hike that we feel like recommending: it starts from the top station of the cable car up to Monte Piatto, where the view leaves you breathless, overlooking Monte Giovo, Val Giovo and Racines.

These areas are perfect for those who like to ski with family and friends on the slopes, encompassing the Racines-Giovo ski area on the south side of the main Alpine ridge, which has already won awards for its well-prepared slopes, guaranteed snow and modern infrastructure. The valley has 23 prepared slopes for beginners and experts as well as a toboggan track, ski schools, rental stations and even a snow kindergarten for the little ones. Let’s not forget the presence of several mountain huts stationed at strategic points where you can enjoy snowy views while tasting local specialties.

Among the most relevant slopes, the high altitude Monte Piatto slope stands out for training on high altitude skiing, while the valley slopes of Racines or Ridanna are recommended for cross-country skiing. We know that those reading us prefer to explore in fresh powder snow, but fear not: Racines is the capital of ski mountaineering! Those who want to climb with skins and enjoy powder on the descent can do it safely on Cima d’Incendio, with several avalanche transceiver checkpoints. Reaching it is not very difficult, from Masseria the route takes only three hours in just under 1000m of elevation gain. The summit then, will leave you breathless far more than the ascent: the view sweeps from the glaciers of Gran Pilastro, Gran Vedretta and Malevalle to the Bicchiere refuge. If you are lucky enough to find a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Vipiteno, a village that is one of the “Borghi più belli d’Italia”.

Are you ready to go to Racines? The ski area opens from 02/12/2022 until 16/04/2023
