Freeride World Tour, kicks off January 28

An extreme competition where performance merges with the art of drawing lines on the mountain

If freeriding is the purest form of tackling a mountain with skis and a snowboard, then we can define the Freeride World Tour as the most compelling and extreme representation of this art. The best athletes from around the world for the sixteenth time will have the opportunity to unleash their imagination. The challenge is simple: a starting gate, a finishing gate, and in between the freedom to draw lines on the snow as if the mountain were a canvas.

The official calendar features the following events:
– Baqueira Beret Pro, Spain, Jan. 28-Feb. 2
– Ordino Arcalís Pro, Andorra, Feb. 4-9
– Kicking Horse Pro, Canada, Feb. 17-22
– Fieberbrunn Pro, Austria, March 11-17
– Xtream Verbier, Switzerland, March 25-April 2

After the first three stages, participants will be judged on the basis of the two best runs they have made, and only some will be allowed to go on. Therefore, the last two stages will be the real finals that will decide the best freeriders in the world in each category. Each run will be evaluated considering five criteria: difficulty and line choice, fluidity, control, technique, jumps and tricks.

With eight days to go until the start of this iconic competition athletes, coaches, organizers, media and sponsors are buzzing. It is now only a short wait to find out whether Maxime Chabloz (SUI, ski men), Jess Hotter (NZL, ski women) and Tiphanie Perrotin (FRA, snowboard women), winners of last year’s event, will be able to reconfirm themselves or whether new faces will capture the titles of freeride king and queen.
