Freeride World Tour: lots of powder and excellent performance at Kicking Horse Golden BC Pro

The world’s premier freeride lineup took the opportunity of a dusting of powder at Kicking Horse, delivering memorable performances in front of a super enthusiastic local audience. The competition was held on the Ozone Face, which provided the perfect location to continue the race for the 2023 world title.

Here’s what happened on this third leg of the Freeride World Tour in the Purcell Mountains.

Snowboard
Mexican rookie Liam Rivera (MEX) was the first to go down, raising the quality of performance too high for the rest of the group to compete with him. Ludovic Guillot-Diat (FRA) consolidated his leadership in the overall standings with a second place, followed by Jonathan Penfield (USA) in third. For the women, however, Michaela Davis-Meehan (AUS) took first place while Estelle Rizzolio (FRA) and Anna Orlova (RUS) finished second and third, respectively, with a strong performance.

Ski
Max Hitzig (GER) potentially made the greatest backflip in FWT history; his entire run was smooth and fast. Local rookie Marcus Goguen (CAN) climbed the rankings and secured second place, while Valentin Rainer (AUT) took third place. For the women, Megane Betend (FRA) turned in a career-defining performance, taking first place and securing a chance to win the world title. Elisabeth Gerritzen (SUI) placed second with a very smooth run, and Addison Rafford (USA) rounded out the podium by taking the top spot.
