Greenpeace gives top score to VAUDE’s Green Shape label

Greenpeace conducted an evaluation of sustainability labels in the textile industry and found that many of them fail to deliver on their promises regarding fair and sustainable production. However, there is one commendable exception: VAUDE’s Green Shape label received top marks for its excellence in pursuing sustainable practices.

The Greenpeace report, titled “Greenwash Danger Zone“, highlights the practice of greenwashing by fashion brands, which advertise their sustainability without substantiating these claims with concrete actions. Out of 14 sustainability labels evaluated, only 3 passed the test. VAUDE’s Green Shape label was defined as “a green thumbs up“, receiving the best possible evaluation.

VAUDE has long been committed to producing sustainable products and has fully demonstrated its dedication to sustainability. The Green Shape label is based on rigorous external standards, is highly transparent and constantly improving.

The Greenpeace report also highlights the problem of overproduction of non-recyclable synthetic textiles, which contributes to serious global environmental problems such as climate change and resource scarcity. While the volume of production of these fabrics continues to grow rapidly, only 1 percent of garments are currently recycled. Greenpeace calls on the fashion industry to adopt a circular approach, with closed material cycles that reduce environmental impact.

VAUDE is a strong advocate of a circular economy and has undertaken numerous initiatives to promote it. In addition to offering repair, resale and upcycling services, the brand has introduced an innovative rental service called “VAUDE Rent” for outdoor equipment. The goal is to extend the life cycle of products and reduce resource consumption. In addition, VAUDE is working to create a circular textile industry by developing an infrastructure for the collection, sorting and recycling of textiles.

The VAUDE Green Shape label represents a model of completeness, rigor and transparency. Introduced in 2010, this label applies to functional and eco-friendly products made from sustainable materials and production.
