Ortovox Safety Academy summer courses online

For a summer on rock in complete safety, Ortovox Safety Academy has decided to launch three climbing courses for both beginners and experts.

To practice mountain sports safely and minimize risks, it is essential to have good technical knowledge. For years already, the Ortovox Safety Academy winter avalanche safety courses have been one of the world’s leading mountaineering training initiatives. Since 2016, the training offerings also include summer courses in sport climbing and multi-pitch. Three climbing courses are planned for this year, in which, in addition to training, the focus will be on sharing the experience on rock and creating a community of like-minded people. The entire training program was developed in cooperation with associated mountaineering schools and offers courses in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France.

From the gym to the rock: the new one-day Climbing Basic climbing course is designed for people who usually climb indoors and have never experienced the thrill of climbing in nature. In addition to learning about materials and knots in detail, the course covers aspects such as rope management as a leader, using a descender to rappel, and building belays.

The Advanced Climbing course, on the other hand, focuses on multi-pitch plaisir routes equipped with bolts. For this reason, previous experience on grade IV (UIAA scale) routes and sure-footedness in rough terrain are among the requirements. Participants will learn, among other things, the techniques of setting up a belay, how to compose a lead and second roped party, and rappelling.

Multi-pitch routes and mobile belay systems: it is on these aspects that the Alpine Climbing course finally focuses. To participate in the course, you must have the knowledge provided by the Climbing Advanced course or have other experience on multi-pitch equipped routes behind you. Course content also includes some variations of belay setup, the use of mobile belay systems and rappelling and rappelling techniques.
