Patagonia: the climbing season is all about women

Patagonia: the climbing season is all about women

The outdoor brand launches a collection of climbing pants on the market designed and tested by women for women

Men and women have specific needs when it comes to clothing. They move differently even if along the same path, because they have different physical characteristics. Even small details, such as the positioning of the pockets, are essential. As a result, important design opportunities may be lost when men’s garments are simply adapted for women rather than custom designed, as is often the case in the world of outdoor apparel.

Through constant research, Patagonia has identified some essential elements to create a collection specifically for women: simplifying the belt, using lighter fabrics and providing even more freedom of movement. The result are pants that have exactly the characteristics required by the sportswomen who wear them.

The women’s climbing trousers line of the Spring 2020 collection was created in collaboration with the brand’s ambassadors and a team of all-female designers. This allowed the athletes to highlight their needs towards a pair of climbing trousers, supported by a team that was personally involved and could respond accordingly. Athletes and designers have worked over a year on the fit, design and performance of these garments. All of the trousers in the collection are made from durable and highly stretchy fabrics, offering protection from abrasion and maximum freedom of movement.
