“Pioneers,” the film by AKU and Peter Moser.

Selected among more than 130 films in the 71st edition of the Trento Film Festival, AKU’s short film chronicles Peter Moser’s great journey among the peaks of the Pale di San Martino Mountains in 2021.

A project of great importance, carried out by AKU and Peter Moser, a high-profile mountaineer with whom the Montebelluna-based company has long established a strong partnership. In fact, Peter Moser’s feat, from which the film Pioneers originated, had as an important supporting element the use of AKU Rock DFS GTX footwear, a model developed with Moser’s own contribution and established over the past few seasons on the international market as one of the most interesting innovations among mountaineering footwear.

In the film, Peter sets out from San Martino di Castrozza with a headlamp in his head, climbs to the Bolver-Lugli ferrata and before the sun sets he will be on the summit of Piz de Sagron; which he has reached after climbing Cimon della Pala, Pala di San Martino, Cima Canali, Sass Maor and Sass d’Ortiga. All in one go.

A confrontation on equal terms with the mountain inspired by the pioneers of mountaineering, which Peter set out to accomplish in order to get to the roots of being a mountaineer and mountain guide, where exploration and awe for Nature are still possible. The same desire for exploration that drove the first British mountaineers to climb the Pale, accompanied by hunters and mountaineers from Primiero, which the film evokes precisely through one of the most legendary ropes that made mountaineering history. Mariano Lott and Antonio Zagonel, both mountain guides of the Eagles of San Martino and Primiero, play the roles of two historical Primiero guides, such as Michele Bettega and Bortolo Zagonel, while British client Beatrice Thomasson is played with British elegance and aplomb by Petra Lott. The direction of the film is, however, by Alessandro Beltrame, the screenplay by Roberta Orsenigo, and idea and subject by Teddy Soppelsa.

The accompanying images of Peter restore the grandeur of an environment as overwhelming and majestic, as unique and severe as the Pale di San Martino Mountains are, documented perhaps for the first time “from the inside.” A success story born from the joint efforts of a staff involving AKU, ApT San Martino di Castrozza – Primiero e Vanoi, and Vibram.

At the Trento Film Festival the first viewing of Pioneers will be May 1 and in repeat on May 5.
