SCARPA’s Maestrale Re-made: the first boot made from refurbished material

SCARPA, an Italian company that manufactures mountain and outdoor footwear, is inaugurating a generation of products created from refurbished material by launching the first ski mountaineering boot made entirely from production waste.

The new model is named the Maestrale Re-Made and will go on sale in the coming weeks in a limited edition of only 2022 pairs. The design and the entire manufacturing process of the Re-Made were developed by SCARPA’s Green Lab, the production department dedicated to experimenting with sustainable solutions. The boot was made using a regenerated polymer derived from about 3 tons of waste from the molding stage, which SCARPA carefully recovered after storing and cataloging them since 1995.

The production of a pair of Maestrale Re-Made enables the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 27 percent compared to the production process of the “traditional” Maestrale in Pebax Rnew, itself a plant-based material. With the launch of the Maestrale Re-Made, SCARPA is also starting a partnership with POW – Protect Our Winters Europe. Part of the proceeds from sales of the new model will, in fact, go to the nonprofit association committed to environmental protection and climate change awareness.

Re-Made testimonial is the great mountaineer Hervé Barmasse, protagonist of an evocative and exciting video. In recent weeks, moreover, SCARPA, initiated the “Re-shoes” project, with the aim of producing a new model of high-quality shoe in the coming years through the recycling of used footwear. The initiative aims to provide an alternative, circular and sustainable solution for the “end-of-life” management of shoes, introducing virtuous recycling practices as a new standard within the footwear industry supply chain.
