Shed Less, the new Polartec technology that reduces the dispersion of fiber fragments during washing

Polartec ‘s innovative Shed Less technology will be applied to the iconic Polartec 200 Series fleece, the first fabric made with this production process.

A huge new step forward for Polartec in its commitment to reducing the shedding of textile fiber fragments, represented by the innovative Polartec Shed Less Flece technology. This was created after countless studies and tests, from knitting to manufacturing and chemical process applied. The result is an average reduction in microfiber dispersion during household washing of 85 percent.

Polartec Shed Less Fleece will be used for the first time on the iconic Polartec 200 Series fleece, the contemporary version of PolarFleece launched in 1981. The new technology results in a process that is applied to the volumizing of microfibers that can endow the fleece with softness and the ability to resist breaking and tearing during washing-one of the most common factors for microfiber shedding. In addition, Polartec Shed Less Fleece keeps the main characteristics of Polartec fleece: lightness, breathability and warmth.

“Polartec has a long tradition of producing sustainable solutions with the goal of reducing their environmental impact,” said Ramesh Kesh, PhD, Senior Vice President Milliken & Company. “Shed Less is the latest evolution of these efforts and the result of many years of research and development.”
