Scarpa, some tips for training at home

Elisa Desco and Daniel Jung, trail runners of the Scarpa team, reveal their secrets for training at home and staying fit.

The national emergency situation caused by the spread of the coronavirus has completely changed the everyday life of every single individual. In a few weeks all sports appointments have been cancelled, as well as the possibility to train in groups, gyms and fitness centres. The home environment has thus been adapted to recreational spaces for children and improvised gyms for adults: keeping active in such a difficult period is the advice of the experts and the athletes of Scarpa have worked hard to keep fit, ready to start again when the time is ripe to do so.

Elisa Desco, athlete of the Scarpa team, skyrunner and mother of two little girls, has decided to strictly follow the government regulations and has chosen to stay at home, in Bormio, giving up all forms of outdoor training: “A choice made to respect our family, our loved ones and the decree” says Elisa, who has adapted the spaces of her apartment, involving the whole family in the new routine. “We rearranged a room by moving the sofa and making just under ten square metres for the treadmill and small gym equipment”. The isolation of these weeks is an ideal opportunity to do strengthening work that is often neglected during the year, not only by athletes. Elisa suggests focusing on core stability and leg extension exercises and adds: “At home you can also do skip, kick running and squat. The hope is that the Covid-19 emergency will soon pass. Never before have I felt the need to go out and run in the fresh air”.

Daniel Jung, trail running athlete of the Scarpa team, lives in Naturno in Val Venosta with his partner and follows the new rules for indoor training. Being able to take advantage of his home garden allows Daniel to alternate workouts and strengthening with pilates and stretching sessions. The ultrarunner’s spirit is revealed in the choice to pedal on special rollers that don’t block the bike, as he explains: “In this way I have to keep my concentration high to stay balanced. I work harder, but it’s also much more training!”.
