New brand, new shoe, new materials

Ulysses Maikoh

Ulysses Running Co. was founded in 2020 in Austin, Texas , by three Italian entrepreneurs for the purpose of developing running footwear and apparel. They launched the brand with three models: Waya for the road segment, Honi for the urban and indoor sports segment, and Maikoh, for trail running. The three shoes are interesting because they use the same midsole and shoe geometry, but declined in different materials depending on the use: a jaquard soft and breathable for Waya, a more elastic and lightweight one in polyester 4D Knitting for Honi, and finally A polyurethane-reinforced nyoln ripstop fabric for Maikoh. The G-Foam midsole is made of Supercritical EVA foam, a different foam than traditional EVA, with a great deal of cushioning and rebound ability, also increased by the rather generous volumes. It uses a patented technology called Nars, which consists of foam that progressively conforms to the shape of the foot to increase support for overpronating athletes. Maikoh’s sole is made of the same material for all three models, called Claw Grip, in the trail model equipped with a treaded mold designed for off-road terrain. Interesting choice to provide this sole with threaded holes to be able to attach ice spikes for the winter season. This is a gamble, perhaps, but one that is based on a product that boasts high-quality source materials. It is a fairly versatile shoe with a good sole and comfortable structure even on runnable terrain.
