Vans X Textured Waves

Vans’ new collection with the goal of amplifying the voice of black women in surfing by generating social change

Vans is launching a head-to-toe surf collection with Textured Waves completely dedicated to women. The two brands want to highlight the many women who are part of the surf community, seeking to amplify their voices to ignite social change.

“Textured Waves was created to resurrect the stories of the women who came before us, showcase the present and open the door to the future,” says Chelsea Woody, co-founder of Textured Waves and a Vans team athlete. “In creating this collection, we were able to include one of the oldest members of our community, Mary Mills, one of the first African American female surfers, along with Andrea Kabwasa and Sharon Schaffer. We hope it serves as a reminder that we have always been and will always be connected to the sea, despite historical efforts to erase and deny us access to it.”

The concept is encapsulated in a style that winks at the past, complemented by the palette of natural earth tones combined with ocean hues. The standout product is the Colfax sandal that features a flocked texture on the straps making for an adjustable closure, as well as a synthetic EVA footbed wrapped in Nabuck.
