Canada Goose: first sustainable parka

Canada Goose sets a new standard for sustainable outerwear with the launch of the ‘Standard Expedition Parka’. The zero-emission parka is the ultimate expression of the brand’s Humanature platform, which promises to keep the planet cool and the people who live on it warm.

This winter, Canada Goose continues the development of its sustainable impact strategy, and Humanature platform, with the launch of its most sustainable parka to date: the Standard Expedition Parka. This brand new model, inspired by the iconic Expedition Parka, encapsulates the brand’s heritage, renowned functionality and represents sustainable innovation.
With its lifetime warranty, dedication to crafting high-end products from the finest materials and making its flagship garments directly in Canada, Canada Goose has kept sustainability at the forefront of its mind over the past sixty years. Canada Goose is driven by constant innovation that strives for improvement, both in terms of caring for its customers and caring for the planet. This effort represents a significant leap forward for the lifestyle brand, helping to set a new standard for the future of apparel. This is just the beginning of the journey towards creating sustainable clothing.

Canada Goose has transformed its traditional Arctic Tech fabric, while retaining the same qualities and performance characteristics, with the creation of Recycled Organic Arctic Tech fabric, a unique blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton. The exterior is also made of 100% recycled nylon, derived from the brand’s Feather-Light Ripstop fabric, which is recycled and designed to protect against wind, rain and snow with its water-repellent finish.
The greige colouring is the result of limited use of chemicals with the undyed fabrics. Even the down filling is 100% responsibly produced. These fabrics and materials have had a decisive impact on the environmental footprint of the Standard. The construction of the parka generates 30% less carbon and uses 65% less water than the classic Expedition Parka.

The Standard is also Canada Goose’s first ever parka to have regenerated fur applied to the adjustable hood. In its 2019 Sustainability Report, the brand announced the introduction of reclaimed fur into its supply chain, pledging to end the purchase of new fur and begin producing garments with reclaimed fur from 2022. The use of reclaimed fur on this parka in early 2021 – making it even more sustainable – reinforces the concept of innovation, which is part of Canada Goose’s core, and is evidence of the acceleration of the brand’s strategy, exemplifying the efficiency of the change path within the entire business.

The significance of this launch goes beyond just the parka and is coming to life through the window displays and a carbon offset initiative. The materials used for the window and in-store displays in all shops offering the Standard Expedition Parka – from Vancouver to New York City to Shanghai – are sustainable and 100 per cent recyclable, including the use of recycled wood and paints that have a smaller impact on the environment. In addition, Canada Goose has offset the carbon emissions generated by the life cycle assessment of this parka as part of its commitment to measure, manage and mitigate its impact on the environment.
