Only 30 days left until the III Craft Ultra Trail Lake Maggiore.

The third edition Craft Ultra Trail of Lake Maggiore is approaching, starting and finishing in Verbania, in the heart of Piedmont, scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. This exceptional event combines trail running with immersion in local history, cultural traditions and food and wine. The “wild” area of Val Grande National Park, the largest in Italy, has no more secrets for participating runners. Organized by the
SPORT PRO-MOTION Sports Association A.S.D.
., which also runs high-level events such as the MEHT – Monterosa East Himalayan Trail in Macugnaga, this event has become an internationally renowned stage.

Why among the many trail races choose the UTLM? The organizer explains:

“The UTLM is undoubtedly the ideal end-of-season TRAIL event. The reasons are related to the comprehensive offer of races of different distances and elevation gain, but especially for the stay that sees the end of the season as the most convenient time to treat oneself to a mini-vacation on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Departure/Arrival are in fact located on the lakefront with plenty of activities for companions as well, and the nearby Malpensa airport makes the location easily accessible even from abroad and southern Italy.”

The competitions

The event features a variety of distances and routes suitable for all participants. The WILD category offers a demanding 81-kilometer challenge with a positive elevation gain of 5,200 meters, ideal for long-distance enthusiasts. For those seeking a less extreme challenge, the BRAVE category offers a 52-kilometer course with 3,100 meters of positive elevation gain. The SCENIC category offers a 37-kilometer route with 2,100 meters of positive elevation gain, while the SUNSET of 18 km and 700 meters of positive elevation gain is also open to walkers in a non-competitive version, without the need to have a FIDAL membership or a competitive medical certificate.
All races, with the exception of SUNSET, will begin and end along Verbania Pallanza’s new pedestrian lakefront, located on the picturesque shores of Lake Maggiore. These routes will cross the most spectacular peaks of the Val Grande National Park, offering breathtaking views not only of Lake Maggiore, but also of the picturesque Lakes Mergozzo and D’Orta, authentic gems of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province.
The SUNSET category is an exception with its 18-kilometer route along the picturesque shores of the lake, starting from the charming village of Cannero Riviera and ending in Verbania along with the other races.
