A new record for the Pro Team Mammut athlete Dani Arnold

In September 2019, Dani Arnold set a new speed record on the Cima Grande. The Pro Team di Mammut athlete climbed the North wall of the Comici-Dimai route in 46 minutes and 30 seconds.
The 35-year-old holds the speed record on four of the six major northern European walls.

To achieve the speed record, and write history again, Dani Arnold climbed the Comici-Dimai route three times with friends, carefully preparing before facing the north face of Cima Grande, on September 5th 2019. The legendary wall of 550 meters long, partially overhanging, is one of the peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, an impressive massif in the Sesto Dolomites, in Italy.

The day of his speed record, the conditions were far from easy: “The rock was not compact and, due to the numerous climbs on other areas, it was also greasy, almost smooth,” explains Dani. An experienced person needs 6-7 hours to go up this route. The 35-year-old reached the top after about 46 minutes, beating the previous record by almost 20 minutes.

On the wall, the Swiss has passed two teams, and another one on the summit. Just before reaching the top, overwhelmed by his feelings, he said: “This success means a lot to me. Less than two months ago I was on my first eight thousander. If you like mountain climbing, you know that you will be tired after such an expedition. Getting back into shape in such a short time was fantastic” says Dani. A wink reveals how proud he is of his expedition: “Almost all the great climbers have left their mark on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Now I’m part of them. “
