Fjällräven presents the Re-Wool line

Always looking for new ways to reduce the environmental impact of its products, Fjällräven has decided to extend the use of recycled wool to the new fall/winter 2019 line.

Known as Re-Wool, this wool comes from pre- and post-consumer sources around the world. It is made up of old garments or leftovers from the wool industry that would otherwise be thrown away. Once collected, it is divided by color, then shredded, then spun again to create new garments.

“We try to use recycled materials wherever possible” explains Christiane Dolva, Fjällräven Sustainability Manager. “We do this because by using pre-existing materials we save in terms of energy and resources, rather than using more energy to extract new raw materials. Wool is a formidable material: it is unthinkable to throw it away. We believe that our Re-Wool is a good alternative to virgin wool, because it uses material that would otherwise be wasted.”

Re-Wool is produced for Fjällräven in Prato, Italy. Its processing is entrusted to three different historic companies in the Prato textile district, selected for their great expertise and expertise. Prato is in fact known as the beating heart of Italian textile production. Here the local producers have spun wool since the Middle Ages and have earned a reputation not only for their refined art and the quality of their garments, but also for their cunning. In their laboratories, in fact, it was customary to avoid any bias: expensive clothing cuttings and end-of-season leftovers instead of being burned or discarded, were used. They were called “other fibers”. Today, that times have changed, we talk instead of “recycling”.

Renewable and biodegradable. Resistant but soft to the touch. Warms up when it’s cold but fresh when it’s hot. It does not allow itself to be impregnated by odors, while it keeps humidity at bay. The properties of wool are really a lot.
