Gore-Tex: the 20th anniversary of the Evolution Jacket

The 20th anniversary of the Evolution Jacket celebrates the partnership between Tilak, Acronym and the Gore-Tex brand. This jacket is designed on high performance functionality and innovation in creative design.

The new Evolution jacket, limited to 200 pieces worldwide, is the result of the latest team-up between the best mountaineering and outdoor experts Tilak and the functional fashion brand Acronym. The 20th anniversary edition, far from being a unique event, represents the fourth generation of co-created Evolution jackets since the brands started working together on styling in 2000.

From the first jacket they created to the most recent one, the same shared ambition has remained: to redefine the functional possibilities of the jacket, while bringing the design back to its most minimal and refined state. To achieve this goal, each version of the Evolution jacket uses the most advanced Gore-Tex technologies of the moment. The 20th anniversary edition is no different: it uses the latest Gore-Tex Pro technology.

The Gore-Tex brand has been redefining functionality in apparel and footwear for decades, continuously raising the standards of weather protection and pushing the concept of “high performance”. It has also become a source of inspiration for countless brands and designers who reduce the boundaries between creativity and functionality in every new collection.

Tilak and Acronym represent both ends of this spectrum: since 1980, Czech pioneers Tilak have designed and produced high-performance outdoor clothing with a decidedly sophisticated aesthetic; Acronym, based in Berlin, has carved out its own space in the fashion world, offering an immediately recognisable combination of futuristic aesthetics and technological functionality. 2020, celebrates the twentieth anniversary of a partnership that has united two distinct but complementary approaches through four generations of Evolution jackets. The collaboration began when Acronym turned to W. L. Gore to receive advice on how best to create your first product. “W. L. Gore told me there was only one factory that could make what I wanted and that was Tilak!” said Errolson Hugh of Acronym. After the initial meeting, Roman Kamler, founder and CEO of Tilak, suggested Errolson create a capsule collection for the brand.

This led to the first co-created Evolution jacket, on which the two brands have been working since 2000. It was a new version of an ice-climbing jacket that Tilak had introduced to the market in the 1990s, with an iconic shape that would also inspire two Acronym jackets. Tilak and Acronym continued to perfect the Tilak Evolution jacket in the following years.
