Hanwag Ferrata Low: the low-cut shoe for alpine adventures

Hanwag expands its mountaineering footwear category with two new technical low-cut models from the Ferrata II family: Ferrata Low and Ferrata Light Low. Excellent climbing performance and walking comfort combined with maximum freedom of movement.

It is now well known that hiking boots do not have to be boots. What is not yet known, however, is that crampons can also be applied to low-cut shoes: the new Ferrata Low by Hanwag opens the way to semi-relamponable low shoes, here proposed in a light “rock” version, but at the same time extremely stable and reliable.

A shoe suitable for experienced mountaineers, with the physical characteristics and conditions necessary to feel comfortable in a low-cut mountain shoe, even when it comes to temporarily wearing crampons to cross a snowfield. In fact, the new model features a notch for the hook lever on the heel. Thanks to the low cut, Ferrata Low is able to offer, compared to high models, more freedom of movement and better ventilation.
Ferrata Low is developed on a TubeTec Rock sole, which combines optimal climbing performance with a stable TPU frame. The high wearing comfort is achieved thanks to the PU core which guarantees optimal cushioning in the heel and ankle area. To protect the shoe when used on gravel and rock, the most stressed points of the shoe are equipped with a robust rubber lining and, to protect the entire upper, the stitching is made of a virtually indestructible polyurethane thread.

The lightest proposal is called Ferrata Light Low. For this model Hanwag always uses the proven TubeTec Rock outsole, but to lighten the shoe does not need a rubber lining. There is instead the highly resistant PU yarn for complete protection of the upper. This second lighter model is perfect as an approach shoe: Ferrata Light Low is particularly suitable for fast ascents and a sporty gait. Despite the low upper, in fact, the new model is able to offer excellent support compared to other low-cut shoes, which gives the foot considerable lateral stability.
