La Sportiva: a first production of 55,000 masks for the Civil Defence of Trento. The company in the Fiemme Valley converts part of its production to make gowns and masks for the Province of Trento.

Ziano di Fiemme – The Coronavirus emergency continues and Confindustria Trento, at the request of President Manzana, asks the industries of the Trentino textile sector to make an effort to reconvert production in order to cope with the lack in the region of medical devices such as certified gowns and masks. La Sportiva, a company based in Ziano di Fiemme and world leader in the production of footwear and clothing for the mountains, after having totally stopped its production lines a week before the ministerial decree that imposed the closure of factories of goods not necessary and not linked to the production chain of the Italian system, accepts the President’s proposal by converting part of the production plant machinery designed for cutting and sewing materials such as leather and rubber, for the production of masks and gowns at the service of the Civil Protection of Trento.

Last Friday, the first prototypes were made and this week, thanks to the technical fabrics supplied by the Trentino companies Vagotex and Texbond, the first 1000 pieces per day will be produced with the aim of reaching 3000 pieces per day when fully operational. Currently in the factory in Ziano di Fiemme, which normally employs 369 people and in which about 2000 pairs of shoes are produced per day, 8 people, including workers and R&D technicians, have been called by the redundancy fund to create the prototypes of the masks that meet the standards required by the Istituto Superiore della Sanità of Turin. The production that has already started is now waiting for the official certification that Dr. Cipriani of Allergo System in Rovereto is working on, in order to be definitively approved so that the company can proceed with the distribution through the channels of the prime contractor Allergo System.
