Mammut becomes partner of the non-profit organisation ClimbAID

Mammut has formed a partnership with the non-profit organisation ClimbAID: the aim is to work together on humanitarian projects that allow refugees to discover the pleasure of climbing.

United by a common passion for climbing and mountain sports, Mammut and the Swiss non-profit organisation ClimbAID have started a collaboration to enable people forced to emigrate due to war and poverty to discover climbing. This forward-looking cooperation will engage in long-term humanitarian projects in Switzerland, Lebanon, Greece and other countries.

ClimbAID and Mammut believe that climbing can create a strong bond between those who practice it, and for this reason they believe that this activity can play an important role in helping people cope with and overcome depression, trauma and anxiety. ClimbAID climbing sessions focus on encouraging individuals to express their physical and mental strength, promote attention to nature, trust and respect for others. Over the past four years, Beat Baggenstos, the founder of ClimbAID, has witnessed the positive influence of climbing on individual development: “My goal was and remains to introduce children and young people to the passion for climbing, thus promoting a sense of personal fulfilment. Climbing allows them to develop their social skills, to improve communication, to learn strategies to solve problems, to hone their perseverance and teamwork skills, useful characteristics in everyday life”. Climbing in company is also an opportunity to meet new people, make friends and have fun. Founded with the aim of opening up new perspectives for young Syrian refugees in Lebanon, ClimbAID has worked with over 2,000 refugees on various projects in Switzerland, Lebanon and Greece.

In the future, ClimbAID and Mammut intend to work together to continue to encourage the interpersonal development of young people. The commitment of both realities has a solid foundation based on shared values. As a partner, Mammut provides technical material, equipment and financial support. Beat Baggenstos said: “We are delighted to have found a partner like Mammut, who supports the added value of diversity in mountain sports and climbing, and is constantly working to improve its environmental and social commitment. The two will learn from each other’s different areas of expertise and benefit from each other. The hope is that the new collaborative activities will make the mountains more accessible to refugees.
