Osprey focuses on sustainability

Osprey, a leading specialist backpacker, today announced its plan to become the world’s most innovative, transparent and sustainable outdoor goods brand

Osprey’s journey towards sustainability began in 1974, with the creation of its first backpack. In designing high quality, technical and durable backpacks, made to last, Osprey has always sought to minimize the amount of materials that end up in landfills and to protect the environment, which is the place for which its products were designed.

This ethos has gone hand in hand with an unwavering belief in sustainability and environmental responsibility. With the All Mighty Guarantee, Osprey guarantees to repair its backpacks and put them back into use in all possible cases, thus extending their lifespan. More than 94% of products received in repair are reborn and returned to their owners.

Osprey also offers an extensive reconditioning program. SecondLife uses training courses and specialist materials to repair the most lived-in backpacks and make them ready for new trails again. In 2018 alone, more than 2,000 backpacks in Europe were able to enjoy SecondLife, preventing them from going to landfill and generating unnecessary waste, while more than 300 were donated to youth charities.

Sustainable materials

Materials are another significant step in this journey towards sustainability. Spring 2020 will see our first shift to quality recycled materials that will be used for technical outdoor and everyday items. The backpacks in Osprey’s new Archeon and Arcane series will be the ambassadors of this initiative and will feature durable yet fashionable recycled materials.
