R5 Gore-Tex Infinium Mythos: ready to run

When temperatures start to drop, it is important to have the right protection against cold and rain. In winter, when it gets cold, running enthusiasts prefer to avoid wearing unnecessary layers of clothing. In case of rain and cold, the R5 Gore-Tex Infinium Mythos jacket offers reliable protection so that you can continue running in the middle of winter.

The softshell jacket by Gore Wear is dedicated to the most assiduous runners who do not give up wearing their shoes and leaving home even when it rains and it is cold. Made of highly breathable fabric, it prevents overheating during running. The layers of fabric are strong, windproof and water-resistant. Thanks to the reflective details and bright colours, the jacket is perfect for running even in low light conditions.

Different types of layers to wear
The ideal temperature is very subjective and varies from person to person. For this reason, Gore Wear products can be combined and matched for optimal results at all times, even in varying weather conditions. The three members of the xc-run team tell us what their ideal equipment is for running in winter.

Markus, the “minimalist
“Running in winter is a real challenge for a minimalist guy like me. I don’t like to wear clothes that heat me up too much. At the same time, however, they have to protect me from the cold, without making me sweat, as well as presenting reflective details. My daily commitments leave me little time to train. Since every moment is precious, I don’t check the weather so often and don’t think about what I should wear. In winter, my standard equipment consists of long socks that offer the right compression and 3⁄4″ running tights worn under shorts to maintain the right temperature. Even on top I wear the bare essentials: all I need is a sleeveless base layer combined with a versatile jacket and I’m ready to go”.

Christian, the “cooler”
“I don’t like the cold. When the temperature approaches zero, I wear long socks, long tights and a pair of shorts with a comfortable fit. Above I choose a layer base with a short-sleeved T-shirt or, depending on the temperature, a long-sleeved one to stay a little warmer. As a final outer layer I wear a protective jacket, regardless of the weather conditions. In addition, I never leave the house without wearing gloves and light head protection.

Bine, a “super fan of layers”.
“The secret to winter running equipment is to change clothes depending on the temperature and, if necessary, carry extra clothing. I like to dress in layers and, if necessary, I take off and put on the garments even while running. For me the ideal outfit consists of a layer base for a skin that is always dry, an intermediate layer that provides warmth and insulation and, above all, I wear a jacket that protects me from cold, wind and rain. Even if my legs are less sensitive to the cold, it is always good to wear a pair of lightly lined winter running tights or a windstopper membrane.
