Snow Peak presents Outdoor Kimono

Snow Peak presents Outdoor Kimono

Born from the desire of the outdoor manufacturer Snow Peak and the kimono tailor Yamato, the duo have teamed up to create a kimono for the outdoors. The concept is simple: a kimono, which you can easily wear and enjoy in the outdoor scene. It can be fastened with a button and a buckle belt, and it is easy to wear without a traditional Obi belt while maintaining the beauty of Japanese style.

In this autumn / winter 2020 model, Snow Peak have updated the design so that it is easier to wear in the city, whilst also having the functionality to spend comfortably in an outdoor field. and it is a collection that allows you to move seamlessly between the city and the outdoors.

Fusion of kimono and outdoor

The literal meaning of kimono is “things to wear”, and until Western styles of closing were introduced into Japan around 200 years ago, the kimono was the standard way of Japanese dressing. Kimono’s patterns are made of all straight parts, so no small part of cloth is thrown away. There is no sizing concept because the length and width are adjustable using an obi belt, so you don’t have to get new clothes when your body size changes. Snow Peak found that the kimono’s concept matched with Snow Peak’s company ethos – that of taking care of your own belongings, using for long periods and do not waste. The straight silhouette wraps around the curved body of a human being, creating a beautiful silhouette that follows the wearer’s body line.
