Test: Elan Ripstick 96

Test: Elan Ripstick 96

Maximum versatility on all terrains: this is how the Ripstick 96 ranks among the best all mountain skis.

Elan’s unique combination of construction concepts results in a ski that effectively stands out from the tide of all mountain skis on the market. How? The three-dimensional carbon fiber provides a responsive and energetic feel, while ensuring greater stability and vibration damping than two-dimensional carbon applications. As for geometry, Elan uses an asymmetrical shape with more rockers along the outer edge and camber along the inner edge, designed to provide ample edge grip, while providing an entering into curves smoother and easier and increasing the overall versatility of the ski for different terrains and different curve shapes. The Ripstick 96, and the rest of the collection, is incredibly light compared to most skis in the all mountain category, and for this reason it can also be used for free touring. We found it easy and pleasant in powder and beyond, thanks to the excellent twist that makes the ski reliable on hard snow. It is therefore a versatile and accessible model, which can be underestimated at first glance, but once tried gives excellent feelings. The Elan Ripstick 96 ski will satisfy a wide range of different skiers, from the less aggressive to the more experienced, who will not be disappointed. Its shape allows for tremendous off-piste manoeuvrability, but has enough torsional stiffness to pull nice high-speed corners even on groomers. What more could you want from an all mountain ski?

We Like: lightweight and floatation on fresh snow.
