Test: Hoka One One Anacapa Mid GTX

The new day-hiker attentive to environmental sustainability.

Since Hoka One One’s Sky series debuted two years ago, the Deckers Outdoor Corporation’s brand has poured considerable resources into the hiking segment. And with the Anacapa model, it can be said that everything they have learned so far is perfectly represented. The upper is the brand’s most vivid expression of the use of sustainable materials: a PFC-free DWR treatment combined with Nubuck accents certified by the Leather Working Group, a Gore-Tex membrane made with 45% of reused material and the use of recycled polyester in the collar, mesh and laces.

The insole is also in 50% soy-based moulded polyurethane. The most significant technical aspect is undoubtedly represented by the compression-moulded EVA midsole that offers a balanced step with an unparalleled weight/cushioning ratio. Extended heel geometry (not as excessive as the TenNine) favors smoother heel-to-toe transitions. Anacapa is one of the most comfortable boots we have had the pleasure of testing. A great choice for those looking for comfort on the trails. This mid cut version with anatomic collar ensures stability that makes it a great choice even for longer hikes with heavy backpacks.

We Like: The gusseted tongue improves the comfort.
