The North Face presents “Naranjo”

The North Face presents the new video “Naranjo”, the story in images of the feat accomplished by the athlete of its team Fernanda Maciel last September in the Picos de Europa mountains, located along the northern coast of Spain.

The new video, available on the brand’s Youtube channel, shows how Fernanda, combining running and climbing, put herself to the test by tackling the 83 km and 6,000 meters of elevation gain that separate the Spanish coast from one of the country’s most famous peaks and completed the feat in just 14 hours and 47 minutes, a performance of the highest order.

Covering the route of the Desafio Cantabria took 13 hours and 40 minutes, but the most impressive fact, considering that Fernanda has limited climbing experience, is the time with which she overcame the 200 meters of the Via Directa De Los Martínez on Naranjo de Bulnes: only 1 hour and 7 minutes.

“I’m not a climber and I was tired but we still managed to go pretty fast,” commented Fernanda, who was accompanied in this feat by her longtime friend and The North Face team athlete, Eneko Pou. “It was incredible, we helped each other until we reached this wonderful peak and hugged each other tight like crazy. We did it: 14 hours and 47 minutes from the Cantabrian Sea to the top of Naranjo!”

For Eneko, seeing Fernanda’s beaming smile after 83 km was what surprised him the most: “I always believed in her, in her strength, her tenacity, her way of overcoming difficulties, but when I saw her smile I was really amazed. I expected that after such a feat Fernanda would be quite tried…but no!”
