The North Face presents Yellow Icons

Yellow Icon: the return of the most representative color of the brand declined in its iconic garments

For decades, The North Face yellow has been the favorite color of explorers around the world. From the summit of Everest to the ski scene of the 1990s to the streets of New York, this color has defined the brand and made it recognizable without hesitation.
Presented for the first time in 1970 as “Acapulco Gold”, this shade was chosen not only because it was particularly visible in the high mountains or to satisfy the consumer’s tastes, but as an expression of the desire to stand out unequivocally and from the very first moment this yellow has characterized the most iconic garments created by the brand.

Acapulco Gold was the only color in which the sleeping bag launched by The North Face in 1971 was made available and the Expedition Parka, presented in 1973, was declined only in Acapulco Gold or navy blue with yellow finishes.
Over time yellow has acquired a predominant role becoming one of the favorite color variants by athletes, such as skier Scot Schmidt and mountaineer Conrad Anker who called it “a real burst of energy for the eye in the most extreme conditions”.

Tim Hamilton, Global Creative Director, The North Face, explains: “There are probably no other colors that represent The North Face like our Summit Gold does. Designed as a safety element in the high mountains thanks to its extraordinary visibility, it has been chosen over time and worn by exploration enthusiasts around the world”.

Today The North Face revisits this color symbol of its identity in some of its iconic garments and re-images it in a city context. Summit Gold is in fact the absolute chromatic protagonist of the Nuptse jacket and Himalayan Parka and other ideal garments in anticipation of the arrival of the cold season.
