Vaude creates the first bag made entirely of recycled material

With the ReCycle Pro Single bike bag, Vaude ushers in a new era: this bike bag is made entirely from recycled materials. The plastic back panel is made entirely from German packaging waste and is a true innovation on the market.

Climate protection has become a key issue in our daily lives, whether it’s waste prevention and recycling or innovative production sites and methods.

Vaude is therefore setting new standards when it comes to bike bags and opening the door to a future of sustainable and innovative production with the new ReCycle Pro Single.

There has never been so much recycled material in a bike bag: “The fabric used for our bike bags is now made from 100% recycled materials. The biggest innovation is that we can now also produce a back panel system from recycled materials,” emphasizes Clément Affholder, Project Manager for Innovations at Vaude.

Future-oriented bike bag made from recycled waste

Wanting to bring cutting-edge know-how and extensive experience in the field of circular economy on board, Vaude partnered with Interseroh, a leading provider of environmental services in the area of closing product, material and logistics circles, and APK, an innovative recycling technology company founded in 2008.

Interseroh takes post-consumer waste that is thrown into the yellow containers or bags that Germany provides for recyclable waste and creates recycled plastic, which is used to produce the bag’s back panel.
APK creates ultra-pure recyclates from the waste materials produced during the production of multilayer PA/PE packaging films. These materials are used for the ReCycle Pro Single‘s attachment hooks.

Ambitious climate goals

The bike bags are a great first step toward Vaude’s climate goals: “We are striving for climate neutrality and would like to produce our products predominantly from organic or recycled materials by 2024,” says Antje von Dewitz, CEO of Vaude. This is aligned with the principle of the circular economy: the use of renewable raw materials and recycled materials conserves fossil resources and significantly reduces CO2 emissions in the production of materials.

With all its sustainability, the bike bag also carries everything cyclists love

With the ReCycle Pro Single, Vaude has created a waterproof, sturdy and eco-friendly bike bag for everyday use that includes a full five-year warranty. There is also a clearly organized main compartment with a folding cover, two zippered compartments and a removable shoulder strap. The bag offers 18.5 liters of volume – plenty of room to store small purchases and office supplies.
