ASICS Nimbus Mirai

ASICS today introduces Nimbus Mirai, a running shoe designed to be circular without compromising the quality or performance expected of a product like Gel-Nimbus. “Mirai” means “Future” in Japanese, a term that reflects the company’s commitment to positively impacting the next generation of sportsmen and women. Nimbus Mirai is part of a take-back program structured by the company, designed to encourage runners to return shoes at the end of their use and thus support a path to recycling. ASICS’ new in-house model represents an important step in the brand’s mission: to reach the net-zero goal by 2050, continuing in the wake of last year’s Gel-Lyte III CM 1.95, the lightest footwear in terms of CO2.

ASICS’ new Nimbus Mirai running shoe stands out for its innovative and sustainable features. The upper, made of a single layer of lightweight polyester, is designed to simplify recycling. A special glue developed by ASICS makes the materials easily separable, allowing the upper to be removed from the sole for recycling. 87.3% of the recycled upper material was reused as a new polyester component. The midsole features FF Blast Plus Eco technology, which provides soft cushioning and is made from 24% renewable sources, including sugarcane leftovers. ASICS also aims to recycle the soles, working with partners to ensure a second life, while maintaining the high performance and sustainable design that runners expect.

ASICS appeals to runners to promote sustainability in the footwear industry with its new Nimbus Mirai model, designed for the concept of circularity. Each year, 23.9 billion shoes are produced globally and most end up in landfills or are incinerated, an unsustainable practice for the future of our Planet. In line with ASICS’ philosophy of promoting physical and mental well-being in a healthy environment, Nimbus Mirai encourages sustainable practices. The model was developed by the ASICS Institute of Sport Science and introduces a new option for runners to return their used shoes to ASICS stores or via shipping to several countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and France, to encourage recycling and reduce environmental impact.
