Helen of Troy acquires Osprey

Mike Pfotenhauer, founder of Osprey, has decided to sell the company to Helen of Troy, owner of consumer products.

Osprey and its 270 employees will join the Helen of Troy Group, which includes Hydro Flask, OXO, Braun, Honeywell, Pur, Vicks, Hot Tools and Drybar. The decision was made by Osprey founder, co-owner and chief innovation officer Mike Pfotenhauer along with his wife Diane Wren, co-owner and board member. The choice on the sale was easy: Helen of Troy, thanks to her commitment and values similar to those of Osprey, such as the search for a creative and innovative design. Osprey will continue to be run by current CEO and owner Layne Rigney, remaining at the headquarters in the foothills of the San Juan Mountains in Cortez, Colorado. The brand’s dedication to becoming one of the best in its field for progress, transparency and sustainability will remain so with the new acquisition.

Scott Pfotenhauer, Chief of Osprey, says, Helen of Troy knows that building a strong and resilient brand requires a good relationship with its customers, employees, community and planet. In fact, the combination of these companies will be a force in the outdoor industry for years to come.”

In addition, Mike Pfotenhauer reassures, “There will be no radical changes. Osprey will continue to do what it does best: design and build exceptional products for the next 50 years and beyond.”
