Nadir Maguet just 5 minutes short of record on Cervino

Nadir Marguet, a very young La Sportiva athlete nicknamed the magician, attempted to break the record for the ascent of the Matterhorn, held for 10 years by Catalan Kilian Jornet Burgada

The magician had almost succeeded, climbing and descending the Gran Becca in 2h57’22, only five minutes more than Jornet, who in August 21, 2013 did it in 2h52’02.
The dream of wanting to become the fastest on the Matterhorn stems from a lifetime of passion dedicated to the mountains. The trail runner began his ascent from the Breuil-Cervinia church on Aug. 22, starting at 10:30 a.m. in front of family, fans and onlookers. At the Carrel Hut he was only one minute behind record man Jornet, but at the summit finish at 4,478 meters the difference was 10 minutes. The descent gave him a very high recovery, a full 5 minutes more than Kilian. On arrival many fans were waiting for him, including champion Bruno Brunod, holder of the first Fastest Known Time on the Matterhorn (3h14′).

Never stop dreaming

On his instagram Nadir writes Dreaming is permissible and when you chase after something you get excited about. AThen it means that you are doing what you love to do. Yesterday was a success for me even though the record remains there, a mix of many emotions from fear to joy to regret but I definitely come out with my head held high and aware that that dream is not gone!
Nadir is back from a season full of success:
In fact, on Monday, July 10, he set another record, that of ascending and descending the Grandes Jorasses in the Mont Blanc massif. Maguet climbed the normal route, from Planpincieux (Courmayeur – Val Ferret) to Walker Peak, at 4,208 meters above sea level, in 2h17′ . After a short break, he stopped the stopwatch at 3h19′. The previous FKT was in 1993, with a time of. 4h03’26′ by Alfredo Mammoliti.

We are sure that The Magician has many more surprises in store for us!
