After a 2019 collection that turned the spotlight on (thanks to a great model such as the Pegasus 36 Trail), during this 2020 the Beaverton brand seems to have softened the tones but demonstrating important updates at the same time. This is the case of Wildhorse which returns with the first major revision since its launch, taking on some features and a look that literally will make your head spin. The seamless upper is in breathable mesh with overlays, not too generous, which prevent abrasions. The integrated gaiter, the soft collar and the renewed tongue complete an exceptional design in addition to the amazing fit, true to size, enveloping but not too much, especially in the forefoot. The lacing is effective and does not allow sliding forward, the gaiter keeps debris away without affecting ankle flexion. On the midsole there’s the biggest innovation, the transition to React foam. Having abandoned the Phylon system, this solution gives much more pop, a soft and fluid gait, a luxurious and somewhat more lively run, especially on flat trails. Inside it has a segmented rockplate (similar to the Terra Kiger 5), a plate that covers 1/3 of the forefoot leaving a gap near the heel. The shoe tends to make the ankle run away, forcing to slow down the pace to take care of the support. Also new is the design of the sole with deeper anticlog studs that perfectly play their role by preventing dirt from accumulating. Good on dirt roads, soft and dry ground, not perfect on wet surfaces, foliage, rocks and roots.
