“Range Rider”: Patagonia’s documentary challenging the conflict between wolves and ranchers.

Patagonia launches a new documentary that offers a deeper look into the life of a “lone rider,” a “range rider,” who works year-round with nonlethal mitigation methods to prevent wolves from looking to cows as a food source and to demonstrate that coexistence is possible.

These are the words of Daniel Curry the protagonist of the clip, “As a range rider, I work year-round to prevent wolves from looking to cows as a food source. I believe I have one main purpose in life on this planet, which is to be a bridge between animals and people. From a young age, I have always been able to relate to animals better than to people. I believe that because of the gifts I have been given, it is my duty to share this extraordinary bond that people can have with animals.”

The issue of the relationship between wolves, livestock and communities is also topical in Europe, where the natural return of wolves is fueling the debate on conservation and coexistence. Organizations such as “I’m not afraid of the wolf” work to conserve these animals and promote coexistence in a shared natural space.
