Sergi Mingote in winter expedition on K2

Sergi Mingote in winter expedition on K2

Sergi Mingote worked closely with Millet to develop the MXP range of expedition products, capable of withstanding the cold and glacial winds that blow on the second highest peak on Earth (8,611m).

The ascent of K2, a prestigious peak due to its technical difficulties and altitude, becomes an even more ambitious challenge in winter conditions. It is therefore not surprising that K2 is the only one of the 14 8,000m peaks that has never been conquered by Man in winter.
After departure on December 19, an approach to base camp at the end of December, and a period of acclimatization in January, Sergi Mingote, leader of the international team of himalaysts composed of the Seven Summit Treks agency, should probably attempt the final ascent in February 2021. Although always Dante-like, weather conditions routinely become more favorable starting in January.
Regardless of the outcome of the expedition, Sergi Mingote has decided to return in early March, to scrupulously respect the period considered winter for this summit. Not content to challenge the technical difficulties, the cold, the wind and the altitude of K2, he also wants – as for all the other 8000ers he has climbed – to carry out the ascent entirely in alpine style, without the help of Sherpas, without fixed ropes and without the use of oxygen.

Sergi Mingote will set out on this expedition with Millet’s gear, including the Trilogy Mxp Down Suit M, the Trilogy Mxp Powerwool Suit M, the Trilogy Ultimate and Everest Summit Gtx footwear.
