Test: K2 Wayback 96

Test: K2 Wayback 96

Light, accessible, fun: the K2 Wayback 96 is perfect for those who are not really beginners, but have decided to get involved.

Those who already know it love it to the point of disinteresting about the construction. Lightweight paulownia core, carbon fiber and Titanal laminate specially developed for K2 Touring skis that greatly increases predictability and damping on lightweight carbon constructions, while improving stability and edge grip. Regarding the use of carbon in skiing, the company does not release information. Would you like to know more? Use it. We found this model to be very easy to handle and docile on all types of terrain and conditions. Its lightweight is also transmitted in skiing, which is pleasant and fun without worrying too much about setting the curves “like a pro”.

The K2 Wayback 96 is responsive and despite being very versatile it retains a certain character. In terms of weight/accessibility/fun compromise, it is among the best on the market. It loses a bit at high speeds, but being an evolutionary ski for beginners and intermediates, it’s not a big problem. Designed for free touring, it reacts well on all types of snow, even on the transition to crusty snow. If we had to give you 3 adjectives to describe it we would say that it is solid, accessible and playful. Do you need anything else? We recommend the K2’s Wayback 96 to those who want to expand their playground in free touring and to evolving skiers who can have fun and learn with this ski at the expense of safety and the pleasure of descending. We ended up thinking that there will be a good reason if K2 keeps the use of carbon in the ski top secret. What interests us is that the result is more than convincing!

We Like: Predictability and fun in all conditions.
