Trento Film Festival 2023: “L’ultima via di Riccardo Bee” and “Wild Life” win audience awards

The Trento Film Festival 2023 awarded two films, “L’ultima via di Riccardo Bee” by Emanuele Confortin as Best Mountaineering Film – Rotari, and “Wild Life” by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin as Best Feature Film – DAO.

In addition to the official awards, the audience voted for their favorite films via the MyTFF area of the website. The Audience Award was awarded based on the sum of votes cast by Festival visitors.

L’ultima via di Riccardo Bee” by Emanuele Confortin is a documentary film about the life of Riccardo Bee, one of the greatest mountaineers of his time. The film does not seek to celebrate the man’s greatness, but rather to capture the legacy of a husband, father and friend who sought an ever-deepening confrontation with himself. Director, journalist and documentary filmmaker Emanuele Confortin is known for his projects dealing with crises, migration and minorities on the margins of modern society in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The Audience Award Best Feature Film – DAO was instead given to “Wild Life” by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. The filmmakers, already Oscar winners for their work on “Free Solo,” told the love story between Kris Tompkins and Doug Tompkins, two entrepreneurs who created successful outdoor brands such as Patagonia, The North Face and Esprit. The couple decided to leave the business world behind to devote themselves to the visionary project of creating national parks between Chile and Argentina. “Wild Life” chronicles this adventure, which led to the largest donation of private land in history.
