Asics launches Gel-Kayano 28

The Metaspeed Edge shoe is designed for cadence runners, so you can go faster thanks to an extended stride length!

Asics officially introduces the Metaspeed Edge, its second high performance running shoe featuring a new human-centric design. The shoe is designed for a specific running style and for all runners who want to achieve high performance in terms of speed.

Like the Metaspeed Sky, the first of the two shoes to be introduced, the Metaspeed Edge has been designed with specific running styles in mind. The new Metaspeed Edge is designed to help professionals achieve high performance: early tests have shown that the shoe can reduce the number of strides by approximately 2.6%1 during a marathon, giving athletes the opportunity to achieve high-level results.

During the 2021 Hokkaido-Sapporo Marathon Festival, for example, German cross-country runner Katerina Steinruck became the first cadence runner to improve her personal best with Metaspeed Edge, clocking a time of 1:10:43 over the half marathon.

The unique design and engineering of these shoes is based on scientific studies by the Asics Institute of Sport Science (ISS). The studies found that the shoes on the market only favoured stride runners, who spend longer time in the air and are able to increase speed by extending their stride.

Realizing how much better athletes perform when supported by a shoe that suits their running style, Asics created Metaspeed Edge for all cadence runners to help them achieve peak performance.

Kenichi Harano, Executive Officer and Senior General Manager at the Asics Institute of Sport Science said, “Metaspeed Edge is the perfect example of Asics’ human-centric approach to innovation. To be able to provide cadence runners with a shoe optimized specifically for their running style for the first time is a privilege for us. We hope the shoe will not only help cadence runners reach new levels of performance, but also keep them protected from injury.
