At the origin of the name is Mount Fuji, also the background of the campaign shots. What better place to convey tranquility and harmony than the iconic Japanese mountain? The need to launch a product that performs well and at the same time grants total freedom during its use were the prerogatives at Asics during the process of creating the Fuji Speed 2.
The shoe
In the new FUJI SPEED™ 2, major improvements have been made to ensure an even more dynamic and stable running experience. The PEBAX plate was replaced with one made of carbon-fiber TPU along the entire length of the shoe, allowing for a more responsive take-off and greater lateral stability. In addition, the midsole material has been revamped, which now features FF BLAST™ PLUS foam, making the ride lighter and more dynamic. The upper has been completely revised, using a high-quality fabric and equipping it with a lightly padded gusseted tongue to ensure maximum midfoot stability. This not only prevents debris from entering the shoe, but also provides superior comfort during trail runs.
The new FUJI SPEED™ 2 is designed to deliver exceptional performance, ensuring an optimal running experience on both smooth surfaces and challenging terrain.
The process of creation
Magdalena Gassebner, Senior Product Marketing Specialist, recounts the process that led to the new FUJI SPEED™: “For this second edition, we were greatly inspired by the MAGIC SPEED™ road running shoe. The ambition was to bring the superiority of our road running shoes to the less traveled trails. By adding the carbon plate and FF BLAST™ PLUS midsole, we created a shoe ideal for accelerating the pace without compromising comfort or grip. Our athletes tested this model repeatedly during the development phase. After Stian Angermund’s victory at the World Short Trail Championships last June wearing FUJI SPEED™ 2, we are excited to introduce this new version, which allows everyone to run faster on off-road trails.”
Ready from head to toe for trail running
Along with the Fuji Speed 2 was the unveiling of the latest FUJITRAIL™ clothing line, designed to move in tune with the runner’s body and limit drag during the fastest running sessions. Among the key items in the collection, the FUJITRAIL™ jacket offers high waterproof protection and can be easily folded up and stored inside the hood. To help trail runners stay cool and increase breathability, the FUJITRAIL™ top and shorts feature Asics’ ACTIBREEZE™ technology and quick-drying fabrics. The entire FUJITRAIL™ line features reflective details that help improve visibility in low-light conditions.
