Ferrino’s travelling “safe dome” to help the Himalayan populations

The Turin-based company supports the association Cuore Attivo Monterosa to ensure medical care in the most remote Nepalese villages

“We work in small, remote rural villages, mainly focusing on promoting education by building elementary and nursery schools. We are continuing in this direction but this year, we decided to broaden our range of activities and to focus on the healthcare aspect too”.

With these premises, in autumn 2021 the association Cuore Attivo Monterosa left for Nepal setting up an itinerant medical center. “Over the last few years, we have seen that many people have real difficulties when it comes to reaching places where dedicated healthcare is available. So we thought, why don’t we go to those who need it?”.

Through the tents provided by Ferrino, the volunteers were able to move among the most remote villages offering medical support, especially in the most urgent cases of assistance.

The team consisted of two doctors, a nurse, four Red Cross aid volunteers, a technician and two photographers and, in addition to offering medical help, they also carried out cleaning operations to limit the problem of plastic waste. The trip included the arrival in the Upper Arun Valley and then moving to the villages with the “safe dom”, the tent set up for surgery. In addition, Sunita Gurun, head of the non-profit organization “Himalaya Education Centre”, supported the work of Cuore Attivo Monterosa in the registration, management and translation of the needs of the people who visited the medical center.

In total five medical interventions have been carried out in five villages, where there have been many visits (for a total of 584 people) and the donation of clothes and useful objects for teaching.
