La Sportiva Supercouloir GTX Pro: test by The Pill

A Gore-Tex Pro shell developed for extreme winter activities such as ice climbing or high altitude mountaineering

La Sportiva Supercouloir GTX Pro

The Supercouloir GTX Pro is La Sportiva’s state-of-the-art shell for what concerns ice climbing and technical winter mountaineering. Constructed with Gore-Tex Pro membrane, its SuperFabric technology protects the areas most prone to abrasion, thus extending its life. In addition to weather protection, the design is designed for a comfortable fit that is provided by the articulated shoulder construction. During our tests we appreciated its freedom of movement even with a backpack on and harness on: the front pockets are, of course, accessible when wearing. The collar is protective and structured and is connected to the hood by buttons. To ensure maximum breathability, the jacket also has underarm vents. We found the Supercouloir to be very protective, especially when climbing icefalls where you spend a lot of time in contact with moisture (and very low temperatures). The waterproofing and protection, however, do not detract from anything in terms of performance because this shell, as we have already mentioned but would like to reiterate, provides excellent freedom of movement thus allowing for maximum performance in climbing. Completing the shell’s features are a double-slider front closure, adjustable cuffs and a removable snow gaiter that totally insulates from the elements.
