Lowa Amplux tested by The Pill
A reliable and essential trail shoe
For the company’s 100th anniversary, Lowa enters the trail running segment with a model designed for any offroad terrain. Amplux is a shoe with a streamlined, narrow and agile shape that allows it to move well on technical and mountain trails. We appreciated Lowa’s choice to develop a model somewhat against the current fashion in running footwear, with a responsive and fast shoe, where in recent years foams that are indeed light, but also soft and more unstable, have come to the fore. Amplux’s midsole uses triple-density foam, with Dyneva technology, which is well-cushioned but not saggy or unstable; in addition, the back has an outer lining that increases the stability of the shoe and improves its control. Amplux also has a carbon reinforcement that should improve its energy return feel by making it a little more cheerful to the ride. The upper is made of one piece of minimized seamless fabric, which wraps well around the instep and provides a fairly precise fit, thanks in part to the lightweight and essential tongue. Collar and shell padded just right: they accommodate the heel, stabilize it, but without weighing down or adding unnecessary grams to the shoe. In sample size it weighs 280 grams, a weight that competes with race shoes on the market today. The sole is made of a compound developed by Lowa, with a very aggressive lug pattern guaranteed by the background of a company that has been working for decades in the world of outdoor footwear.
