Mammut Core Protect Rope: safety first

Mammut Core Protect Rope –
Mammut
presents Core Protect Rope, a revolutionary climbing rope that embodies safety and innovation. Featuring Mammut’s patented Core Protect technology, enhanced with an additional protective aramid layer, this rope offers significantly improved cut resistance without compromising weight, dynamics or handling compared to standard climbing ropes.

Despite the high quality of modern climbing ropes, accidents with cut ropes can still occur, particularly during alpine climbing, near sharp edges or while navigating through cracks. Even on sport climbing routes with aged fixed carabiners, edges can pose a potential risk to the rope. The Core Protect Rope represents Mammut’s answer to these risks, marking a significant advance in climbing rope technology.

The main focus of the Mammut team was to create a climbing rope that prioritized life preservation through increased shear strength while maintaining conventional rope behavior and performance. The Core Protect Rope not only maintains safety standards but also elevates the performance and safety of climbers.

An additional protective layer of aramid, known for its heat resistance and strength, surrounds the core of the rope. This layer is strategically placed between the outer shell and the core, both of which are made of polyamide 6, known for its dynamic properties. The aramid sheath is braided with excess length, allowing it to deploy fully under tension on sharp edges to protect the core without exposing it to maximum drop energy. Placed under the sheath, it protects the aramid from UV radiation and reduces wear on carabiners and safety devices.

Mammut has invested twelve years in the development and testing of the Core Protect rope to ensure its performance in realistic fall scenarios. Test results show that the rope can withstand falls on sharp granite edges, outperforming standard ropes and providing climbers with an unprecedented level of safety. Designed and developed in Switzerland, the Core Protect rope has undergone rigorous testing by mountain guides and professional athletes such as Stephan Siegrist and Jonas Schild. Its construction ensures that the rope performs like any other Mammut Dry climbing rope, providing a familiar and reliable climbing experience.

The rope, which won the OutDoor by ISPO Award 2024, is now available in two versions.
