Odin 9 Helly Hansen wins Good Design Award – In 2020,
Helly Hansen
introduced Lifa Infinity Pro, an innovative and environmentally friendly technology to produce a laminated fabric with a waterproof and breathable membrane. Thanks to the use of this technology, the Odin 9 Worlds Infinity Mountaineering Shell Jacket was honored by the jury of the Good Design Award, confirming its innovative features both in terms of design and environmentally friendly production.

Lifa Infinity Pro Technology

The outer fabric of the Lifa Infinity Pro laminate is made of 100 percent polypropylene fibers, a hydrophobic material that does not retain water, so it is water-repellent without the need to apply any chemical treatment. With this innovation, Helly Hansen is the first brand in the outdoor industry to switch from a PFC-Free to a DWR-free solution. This results in both a reduction of chemicals applied to the fabric and the energy required to periodically regenerate traditional DWR treatments that lose effectiveness over time.

To the DWR-free solution, Helly Hansen has added state-of-the-art sustainability manufacturing processes, such as the polypropylene microporous membrane, which can be produced without the use of solvents. Lifa Infinity Pro fabrics are dyed using solution-dyed (bulk dyeing) technology, which involves dyeing the fibers before they are extruded. This avoids the presence of chemicals in wastewater as is the case in the traditional dyeing process, and the coloring is permanent. Compared with polyester fibers commonly used by the outdoor industry, the production of Lifa® fibers decreases environmental impact by 16 percent with 18 percent CO2 savings.

Made from a tough, high-performance three-layer laminate, the Odin 9 World Infinity Shell Jacket is a shell that incorporates specific functional solutions that can make a difference during mountain activities, such as a two-way YKK front zipper, underarm zippers for ventilation, pockets and zippers arranged to be compatible with shoulder straps and backpack ventral strap, an adjustable hood to be worn over a helmet as well, large cargo pockets for gear, Recco reflector, and pre-shaped sleeves for a comfortable fit. Available in specific men’s (3 colors) and women’s (5 colors) versions.

The Good Design Award

The features of the Odin 9 Worlds Infinity Shell Jacket were also recognized by the jury of Good Design, the international award that celebrates quality design, functionality and aesthetics. The Good Gesign award is the world’s most prestigious, recognized and oldest industrial design award, which since 1950 has been given by the Chicago Athenaeum – Museum of Architecture and Design to the most innovative products of the year that are permanently housed within its exhibition spaces.
